SLA Offers Free Online Courses Through Click University

Special Libraries Association (SLA) now offers free online courses as an exclusive benefit to SLA members. The free programming encompasses all non-certificate online courses that are part of SLA’s Click University, including programs such as Click U twice-monthly Webinars, the SLA Online Libraries and Click U Replays. Also available to members as part of their membership dues are execuBooks, 23 Things, the SLA Innovation Lab and SLA Leadership Training.

This course provides techniques and guidelines for understanding and utilizing the knowledge audit, the evaluation tool which combines the methodologies of the standard needs analysis (asking what research resources and services people require to do their work) and the information audit (how research resources and services are produced or acquired and how these resources are actually used) to establish and evaluate knowledge assets for the larger parent organization. Topics covered include:

• distinctions between the needs analysis and the knowledge audit
• matching organization knowledge strategy with service delivery goals
• the Henczel seven-stage audit model
• determining scope and resource allocations for conducting the knowledge audit

This online course continues the exploration of the functions of the Intelligence Process/Cycle with Published Source Collection (aka literature research or secondary research). We will focus on managing the function by examining 1) differences between intelligence literature research and general business research 2) types of intelligence literature research 3) specific requirements and considerations for intelligence research 4) how to design literature research projects to support analytical requirements 5) how to structure and manage the intelligence information center, its resources and efforts. Throughout we will consider the variety of literature resources used in CI: print, fee-based content and Web-based content.
