Have you experienced Second Life?

SLA and Click U are again offering free online sessions to help you learn about virtual worlds (such as Second Life) and to help you get ready to participate in SLA Second Life events with members from around the world. This training is offered in two parts. Part 1 is delivered virtually through WebEx. Part 2 takes place in-world in Second Life. If you've never used Second Life before, be sure to take Part 1 before taking Part 2.

Upcoming: Copyright Certificate Course (CCM100)

Register now for CCM100. Introduction to Copyright Management Principles and Issues.  This course is open to SLA members and to non-members. SLA members will earn .7 CEUs from IACET, and this course also counts as credit towards members completing Click U’s Copyright Management Certificate program. This two week course begins 26 October 2009.

Brand NEW to this offering of CCM 100:  Participants will receive a workbook which will be used to organize the course materials and readings and will act as invaluable reference material. How has globalization improved the lives of people around the world?

Advocates of globalization point to increased productivity and national wealth in developing countries, but an increase in a nation's overall wealth says little about the equality of income distribution within that nation. Indeed, globalization can create rich countries with very poor people.

In this execuBook, author Alex Perry argues that the growing gap between haves and have-nots on our planet strikes at the heart of globalization, and as this gap widens, those left behind economically have felt an increasing sense of injustice. He points to examples from China, India, Africa and elsewhere in the developing world, and asks some uncomfortable questions such as, is war necessary for progress?

How is Social Networking Affecting Education?

The member's enthusiasm for Second Life was plainly obvious during a recent post-conference "unconference" SLA event held in Second Life last month featuring SLA CEO Janice Lachance and President Gloria Zamora. Janice and Gloria visited the SLA land in Second Life to talk about the SLA alignment project and answer questions. There were over 30 people (represented by their avatars) in attendance, and this session has sparked a lot of interest from people wanting to know how to get started in this virtual world.
