This course identifies techniques for establishing the relationship between the management of knowledge services and organizational leadership. The critical result is the development and on-going implementation of an enterprise-wide knowledge culture. With knowledge services as a recognized operational function, knowledge development and knowledge sharing combine into a single organizational attribute supporting the successful achievement of the organizational mission. Based on Guy St. Clair's books Entrepreneurial librarianship: the key to effective information services management, (London and New York: Bowker-Saur, 1996) and Power and influence: enhancing information services within the organization, (London and New Brunswick, NJ: Bowker-Saur, 1994). Topics covered include:
- definitions of leadership as used in organizational management
- the entrepreneurial/intrapreneurial perspective in knowledge management/knowledge services delivery
- shifting paradigms with respect to knowledge transfer in the larger organization
- the value of power and influence in the success of knowledge services delivery
- defined elements of the knowledge culture
