SLA's staff members (yep, all of us!) are working together to bring you an educational, networking-filled conference experience this June at SLA 2010 in New Orleans. I wanted to take a few minutes to highlight some of the continuing education courses that are being offered for your career-enhancing benefit!
"Embedded Librarianship: Is It for Me?" is a product of the 2007 SLA Research Grant research Models of Embedded Librarianship by David Shumaker and Mary Talley. Join Mary for this full-day CE on Saturday, 12 June, to learn more about what embedding means, how it works, and how to implement this service model in your organization.
Do you manage down? What about managing up? Paulette Hasier will teach you how to advocate, communicate, and negotiate your way to a higher profile within your organization. "Managing Up: Becoming an Agent for Change" will be held on Saturday, 12 June, from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
You don't have to live in New Orleans to have experienced the devastating results of a disaster (natural or otherwise). We all need to have a plan in place to best mitigate the effects of water, fire, and other types of damage that can literally destroy our libraries and collections. On Sunday, 13 June, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Julie Page of the California Preservation Program and the Western States & Territories Preservation Assistance Service (WESTPAS) will lead participants through the steps of creating a disaster plan, and offer strategies for training staff so they will be ready to protect the libraries services and assets. Sign up for "Protecting Library Collections Before Disaster Strikes."
A full list of SLA-sponsored CE courses is available on our Web site. Sign up for these and all ticketed events through the conference site. We'll see you in New Orleans.
