Copyright Management Program Graduates 19 in 2011

This year, 19 individuals completed their Certificate in Copyright Management coursework and received program diplomas from SLA CEO Janice Lachance. 

The graduation ceremony took place on Sunday, 12 June, at SLA 2011 in Philadelphia with 15 of the graduates in attendance.  After inspiring and congratulatory words from Janice, the graduates, Janice, instructor Lesley Ellen Harris, and I retreated from the CCM700 classroom for our group picture.

A record number of participants signed up for CCM courses this year, an increase of 39% over 2010.  Next year, a course on "The Author's Perspective on Copyright" will be added to the program. 

Dates for the 2011/2012 year will be announced in late July/early August.

Communicating Effectively in the Workplace

Communicating effectively – which always translates into communicating assertively – is the most important skill one requires for the workplace. Without it, everything else can become problematic. We need to be able to manage with people who are not only different in style but often at cross purposes. Assertive communication is a low risk way to express our thoughts, feelings and preferences in a way that never criticizes, blames, lectures or imposes unrealistic expectations. No matter what the work setting, this skill is vital to get on with our day and manage our time and work effectively.

Copyright issues have become more complex with the proliferation of technology and digital platforms that encourage the creation and transmission of copyrighted content. Swift, seamless sharing of information is increasingly important in competitive environments across all industries. Incorporating interaction and discussion, this course will provide an opportunity to learn about copyright law as it applies to real world scenarios involving the use of copyrighted material in a digital environment.

SLA 2011 in Philadelphia offers two opportunities to spend the day learning about copyright through Click University certificate courses.

Copyright Certificate Courses Are Here!

The moment you've been waiting for...it's time to register for 2011 Certificate in Copyright Management (CCM) courses!

New to dealing with copyright issues?  Trying to develop a copyright policy for your organization?  Want to learn more about copyright myths? 

These topics and many more will be addressed in the program, which is offered January through June.  Six of the eight courses are offered online through GoToWebinar, the platform Click University uses for virtual programming.  The final two courses are in-person full-day sessions at the SLA 2011 Annual Conference in Philadelphia in June.

Instructor Lesley Ellen Harris of Copyrightlaws.com will lead particpants through the learning experience.  Courses are a mixture of live seminar and discussion, discussion list participation, and independent reading.  There's an end-of-course assessment that sums up what you've learned.

CCM100, an introduction to copyright management, is a good place to start!  CCM100 begins Friday, January 14th, at 1:00PM ET.
