Recently, a colleague forwarded me an site that listed 22 tips for interviewing. It was unlike other articles I’ve seen on what interviewees should and should not do.  “How to Nail an Interview (22 Tips)” was very interesting and humorous, and shows what real people said in response to common interview questions.

Here are some of the tips:

1. Dress in a clean conservative manner
2. Sell yourself in 10 seconds
3. Be on time
4. Turn your cell phone off
5. Know the company and why you want to work there

Do you know how to stand out in an interview?

In this economy, fewer people are leaving their jobs, which means there are more people going after fewer open positions. It is up to YOU to make yourself stand out. You have to be aggressive in this competitive market. Here are a few tips from Sarah E. Needleman's article “The Interview That’ll Bag a Job” from the Wall Street Journal.

• Wait until 10 minutes before your scheduled interview time to announce yourself.

• Keep your personal woes out of the interview process.

• Show you've done your homework on the company by explaining how your background and track record relates to its current needs.

• Be sure to show you're a strong fit for the particular position you're seeking.

• Wait until you're extended a job offer before talking pay.

• Exercise caution with your follow-up. Don't stalk the interviewer.
