This year’s DLDP Breakfast will feature a knock-out presentation on White Privilege by Art Munin.  Ever wonder what it means to be white in society?  What it means to be a person of color in society?  Wonder what types of often unseen privilege is acculturated into the society around us?  This presentation examines how the power of white privilege has played a major part in history and perpetuated itself by denying its own existence. His seminar will examine how that privilege has evolved, its significance, and how people can derail it.

You will also have the opportunity to meet Nancy Snell, the recipient of the 2010 DLDP Award.

Also consider registering for one of the full day in-person courses on copyright or other courses offered in New Orleans through Click University.  At SLA 2010, you can gain further copyright knowledge in the 12 June hands-on course on Managing Copyright Issues and in the 13 June practical course on Copyright Education (educating those around you about copyright and licensing). Both of these courses are part of the Certificate in Copyright Management program. Complete all seven courses within 24 months and you will receive your Certificate in Copyright Management. The other five courses are online courses.

SLA’s INFO-EXPO Rated One of America’s Best Trade Shows

The Special Libraries Association (SLA) INFO-EXPO was rated one of America’s highest ranking trade shows by Exhibit Surveys Inc.’s 2009 Trade Show Trends report.  The show, held in conjunction with the SLA Annual Conference , was ninth in Net Buying Influence and eleventh in Highest Traffic Density.

Net Buying Influence measures the percentage of conference and show attendees who have the power to recommend or make final purchasing decisions; Traffic Density measures the average number of attendees per square foot of exhibition space. The 2009 Trade Show Trends report demonstrates that 89 percent of SLA INFO-EXPO attendees have the authority to make purchasing decisions.  The SLA 2010 Annual Conference & INFO-EXPO will be held in New Orleans June 13-16 and will feature more than 400 booths.

SLA’s INFO-EXPO is the largest trade show for information professionals, special librarians and knowledge workers in North America. According to SLA’s 2008 Conference Participant Survey 51 percent of attendees are librarians or information specialists and 37 percent hold managerial positions.  Attendees represent a wide range of industries including, academic, federal government, legal, financial services, industrial/manufacturing, and business services.

The Online Personal Conference Planner for SLA 2010 is now available on the SLA Web site.

The online planner contains the latest conference information. The personal scheduling feature allows you to:

• Create a login to save your personal itinerary for SLA 2010
• Use the Advanced Search feature to search by Keyword, Event Date, Speaker, SLA Unit, or Sponsor. (To view a list of all sessions, click on 'Search' without selecting any of the options in the Advanced Search section.)
• Click on the event title to view the event's description and other details
• Visit the Speaker List to view a list of speakers and their sessions
• Add/save/update events to your itinerary

First Time Creating a Login?

• Visit My Briefcase to create a login and receive an Ecode (Print/save your Ecode for return visits)
• Visit theConference Planner to begin creating your personal itinerary
• Click on the Advanced Search button to Search by Keyword, Event Date, Speaker, SLA Unit, or Sponsor. To view a list of all sessions, click on 'Search' without selecting any of the options in the Advanced Search section.
• Click on the event title to view the event's description and other details.

We will be sending out an electronic preliminary conference program in the next few weeks.  It will be emailed to all SLA members.   However, we still urge you to use the online planner for the most up-to-date information.
