Treasurer Dan Trefethen sent the following message to chapter and division leaders:
I wanted to make sure that you are aware of the requirement for unit financial reports to be filed by January 31 for the fiscal year 2011. We sent a message to the unit treasurers earlier today regarding this.
Please contact your treasurer for 2011 (not the newly-appointed one for 2012) and confirm that he/she received this message. I don’t trust spam filters, and it is imperative that your treasurers complete this on time. We cannot pay unit allotments without timely filing of this information. Your treasurer for 2011 is responsible for filing the financial report for that year.
I also want to make you aware of the new requirement to submit copies of your monthly bank statements for 2011. Those of you in office during 2011 may recall that our auditors brought us this requirement in 2011 for the fiscal year 2010, and they want us to continue this practice. The Board of Directors recently amended the unit reporting requirements to include it.
The message sent to the treasurers is reproduced below (the links going to the treasurer’s wiki won’t work for you).
Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to seeing you shortly in Atlanta.

Just a reminder to the 2011 SLA unit treasurers that one of your last duties is to complete the 2011 Annual Financial Report. For our 2011 treasurers, thank you for your service to your association. I hope that this vital position within your chapter or division has been a good learning experience and a way
to see how the association works. For those who are new in 2012 or continuing, thank you as well. SLA is certainly categorized by the US IRS as a not-for-profit organization but we still must operate at a profit. Your fiscal management is appreciated.
Two important dates are on the horizon.
January 15, 2012. Have you paid any individuals over $600 in 2011? The following steps should be taken to file the List of Individuals paid over $600: Make a list of all individuals paid over $600 for the period 1/1/current year through 12/31/current year. This calculation only applies to checks actually written and dated within this time period. Eliminate amounts paid for the reimbursement of actual expenses (i.e. airfare, hotel, postage, etc.) in determining if $600 has been paid during the year. Only amounts paid for services (i.e. honoraria, consulting, etc.) are included in the calculation. Forward the list of the individuals, including 1) Name, 2) Address, 3) Social Security Number (if a citizen of the U.S.), 4) Amount paid, and 5) reason for payment to the controller@sla.org no later than January 15th.
January 31, 2012. Your unit's Year End Financial Report is due January 31, 2012. You will find instructions on the Web or in the Unit Treasurers' Wiki. All reports must be submitted via Quicken
except the statement of liabilities and property report and final review certification; click here to find these. Each unit is provided a copy of Quicken and should be passed along with the records to the succeeding treasurer.
There is an additional requirement which is added to the annual financial report. You must submit a copy of the unit's monthly bank statements and reconciliation for all of 2011. No Year End Financial Report will be considered complete without these. If you would prefer, you may place me as a signer on your account if you have online access; we will download from here.
The reference materials contain outdated contact information. Please send your reports to controller@sla.org and you may also contact Linda Broussard if she can assist you.
If you have questions on Quicken, check the Web resources or I suggest you post to our wiki so that a more experienced Treasurer may lend a hand.
And, again, thank you. Will I see any of you at Leadership Summit? The Finance Committee will be meeting there so all of us "money people" can find a place to gather for an opportunity to chat.
