Do you have ideas about how the federal government can support your work as a special librarian in the private sector? The Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) is currently building its five-year strategic plan, and is requesting input on how it can best fulfill its statutory responsibility “to support museum, library, and information services to meet the information, education, research, economic, cultural, and civic needs of the people of the United States.”
Be heard by visiting http://imls.ideascale.com. Also, share this link with stakeholders in in your organization who value your services as an information professional. With input from the stakeholders in your organization, the IMLS will have stronger direction on how its plan will best support your goals. In order to be competitive, all workers need information science skills.
In the future, the IMLS could provide and support information science training across multiple disciplines (and potentially have federal money allocated to promote information literacy everywhere, in federal institutions, the private sector, and not-for-profit associations).
